Flipping the Switch to Improvisation at the Piano
If you know me at all, you know that musical improvisation is where I live. Of course I can read music; my major instruments in college were classical piano and organ, That said; perhaps the largest lesson that I learned there, is that the approach of interpreting and navigating the structure of symbols was not my most natural path. Not that I couldn't, but that there was another way, to which I was more suited. All of us are best suited to be at one point or the other, but are also capable of working the other side of the street. And that's the point; you can flip the switch. In this lesson, I will lay that out.
